Component Supply offers high-quality, straightened and hardened high-carbon spring steel wire designed for applications requiring exceptional strength, elasticity, and fatigue resistance. Originally developed for musical instrument strings, music wire is now widely used in the manufacturing of compression springs, extension springs, torsion springs, and other high-performance mechanical components.
Music wire is cold drawn and heat-tempered to achieve extremely high tensile strength while maintaining flexibility. This material can withstand repeated stress without losing its shape or elasticity, making it one of the highest grades of spring wire available. Typical tensile strength ranges from 225,000 to 400,000 psi, and the wire can bend 180° without cracking or wind into tight coils with excellent consistency.
Because of its strength, music wire must be cut using a cutting wheel or carbide cutters and should be stored in protective oil to maintain performance.

Component Supply stocks production quantities of music wire in the sizes indicated on the chart below in 36″ lengths. All sizes are packaged in quantities of ten, but some are sold individually. There are many custom fabrication options for this material including cutting and deburring.
